Vehicle updates: WTS272T, WTS276T, HSR46X and WBW735X

Over the course of the past few days we've been making progress on quite a few fronts.

Volvo Ailsa WTS272T and Volvo Ailsa WTS276T were taken to Xplore Dundee in Dock Street for their pre-MOT checks. The open top Ailsa 300 will go for testing in a couple of weeks around the same time at the repaint of 276 gets underway.

Volvo Ailsa HSR46X has been receiving quite a bit of work in our storage area and was moved for the first time as she's prepared to go inside for the first time in five years.

Leyland National WBW735X is in the process of having the rear brake linings replaced after one of the shoes locked the nearside drum.

Remembering Danny Greene

On Monday 29 May 2017 Taybus Vintage Vehicle Society was honoured to be invited to play a small part in the funeral arrangements for retired Ribble Motor Services driver Danny Greene by providing transport to the church, internment and refreshments.

When we acquired Leyland National WBW735X she was brought up from Crewe in two stages on 1 & 2 August 2014 driven by Taybus member Jim Patrickson. A few weeks later she made her first visit to the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum on Sunday 17 August. Danny joined us on that trip which brought back memories for him as he drove many Leyland Nationals in service. He shared many of his bus photographs with us and travelled to some of our other events when he was able to manage.

Danny was due to visit us all at Taybus a few months ago but sadly wasn't well enough. So for his final journey we thought it fitting for him to be joined by our Leyland National one last time, driven once again by Jim Patrickson.

Danny Greene 1947-2017

It's with great sadness we report the passing of Taybus family member and supporter Danny Greene on 18 May 2017, his 70th birthday, following a short illness.

Danny started off as conductor with Ribble Motor Services before training as a driver at their Frenchwood Depot in Preston in the early 1970s. By the late 1980s he served time on Ribble Kingfisher duties, worked the Zippy service and carried out National Express work travelling all over Great Britain.

Two of Danny's grandsons have inherited his love of, and interest in, buses and are long-time members and active supporters of TVVS. We extend our sympathies to them and their family at this difficult time.

Event: 21 May 2017 - Scottish Vintage Bus Museum Running Day

Sunday saw Taybus Vintage Vehicle Society attend its first transport event for 2017.

Attending was Leyland National WBW735X - restored from our collection, fresh from several months of restoration work, which not only was on display but completed two very popular runs to Saline and Kelty.

Here's Nellie the National at Lathalmond being kept company by 1984 Leyland National 2 A108CFS 108 Lothian.

Taking a rest at Saline alongside 2014 Wright Streetlite SN64CKV First Midland Bluebird.

Getting wetter at Kelty.

Stopping off at Auchtermuchty on the way back for some 'refreshments'.

Vehicle updates: WTS272T, WTS276T, WBW735X and M953XES

We may have lost an hour with the clocks 'springing' forward but there's still plenty of work taking place on five vehicles at the moment.

Volvo Ailsa WTS272T - the paintwork is being spruced up by Brian Robertson in preparation for the start of the 2017 rally season. The oil sump is being changed and some outstanding interior work completed.

Volvo Ailsa WTS276T - restoration work continues with a view to the bus receiving a full repaint soon. We have also raided our two crates of Ailsa spares to help find some parts that are no longer available.

Leyland National WBW735X - with a number of mechanical issues tackled the interior got some attention with the seat frames and legs being painted and the floor prepared for a repaint as well. The front step is also part-way through being refurbished.

Leyland Olympian M953XES - now safely undercover and adopted by two of our members the interior of the bus was given a thorough clean and the destination display equipment tested. We'll either need to go on a long journey or reprogram it at some stage! Thanks as well to George for helping with some mechanical issues.

Oh and if you are counting we're not allowed to say what the fifth vehicle is at present...

Vehicle updates: OAG535H and M953XES

Monday 13 March saw stalled restoration project 1969 Leyland Leopard OAG535H (new to Western SMT) leave our premises and transferred to Bathgate where restoration will get underway once again. A number of people have carried out work on this (now) tow wagon over the years but sadly never to a final conclusion and so we are delighted that this project should be seen back on the road in the not to distant future.

As a result this freed up a space indoors and 1995 Leyland Olympian M953XES (new to Strathtay Scottish) was moved inside for some outstanding work to be completed.

Link: Gallery of Trucking Images

We have recently been sent a link to a collection of images of various types of vintage trucks and lorries across the 20th century, with some of them dating back to around the turn of the 20th century. There are all kinds of makes and models included and even a compilation of buses and farm vehicles can also be found within.

It’s definitely been a labour of love to assemble and the collection can be found by clicking here.

There are links to many more photograph collections and other useful resources on our Links page and if you know of further useful additions please get in touch with us through our Contact page.

TVVS: The Taybus Vehicle Collection

When Taybus was formed in 1995 to look after Dundee Corporation's Daimler CVG6 ETS964 the founding members had the foresight to trace where significant local vehicles were still being used or stored before approaching the owners to see if they could be acquired for future preservation.

By Taybus owning these vehicles it meant they wouldn't be lost to the local area as our members are free to remove their buses or offer them for sale.

The first bus acquired for preservation was Tayside Regions Bristol VRT OSR204R and now the list has grown to some nine vehicles:

- Dundee Corporation Daimler CVG6 ETS964 (donated by Xplore Dundee)
- Dundee Corporation Daimler Fleetline GSL908N
- Tayside Region Bristol VRT OSR204R
- Tayside Region Volvo Ailsa WTS272T
- Tayside Region Leyland Leopard GSL306W
- Tayside Region Volvo Ailsa HSR46X
- Northern Scottish Leyland Leopard GSO86V
- Strathtay Scottish Leyland Olympian M953XES (donated by Stagecoach Fife)
Reliance-Mercury tug Q693GCM

In addition there are currently another 17 vehicles in our collection which are owned by our members and stored at various sites across Scotland and England.

We have been made aware of a local transport museum's website which features some of our copyrighted photographs of our vehicles. To be clear we have absolutely no links to this organisation and none of our vehicles have been loaned to them for display either at their premises or their events since 2014.
